Demonstrates the disposition for life-long learning and continuous professional development

 

In competency five, I chose my Initial/ Final Vision Statements from EDCI 564.  In the document, I discussed the importance of lifelong learning and professional development.  The course taught me that every project or training should be a building block in my career.  It opened my mind to the concept that there is always something to learn from each experience. 

 

In comparing my statements, I demonstrated the need for LDT professionals to know how to use tools in a professional format.  This concept goes hand in hand with the constant drive to learn and improve upon what you already know.  Throughout the course, I learned that the tools should support the content and not distract from it.  One area that I worked to improve upon after this course was implementing that idea into the materials I design for youth.  There are often many outside factors that are already distracting youth, so it is especially important with this age group.  Professionals in the field must be risk takers and have the ability to accept criticism from clients and learners alike.   LDT professionals must put that criticism into action. 

 

EDCI 564 also challenged me throughout the development and facilitation of my 4-H Livestock Workshop.  I was put in the driver seat of the project, and was in charge of defining my success.  During this course, I was also dealing with the loss of my grandmother so I learned a lot about work life balance.  Often times we are faced with obstacles and have to rise to the occasion.  EDCI 564 is a course that I stepped away from knowing I had grown as a student and professional.  As a professional, I plan to take any professional development opportunities that are presented my way.  As technology changes, my goal is to stay on top of the trends by attending workshops and seminars that will challenge me to become a stronger designer.
