NARRATIVE
To show my ability to be effective when communicating through both oral and written outlets, I opted to spotlight my Practicum Final Project from EDCI 573. This project was developed to be a virtual agriculture day experience, so students who live in cities or schools that are experiencing budget cuts can learn where their food comes from. My practicum was unique, because I got the opportunity to work with a fellow classmate who was also a coworker. This project allowed me to utilize communication skills in many outlet including: design, content, and communication with the teachers and people I interviewed. My partner and I made videos for several of the sections, and we spotlighted our oral skills through interviewing and being interviewed. The virtual agriculture day also allowed me to effectively communicate content through the design and delivery of teaching/ learning activities that integrate content and pedagogy. We developed several units that were reflected in a pre and post-test to assess the learners gained knowledge. To keep the audience engaged each of the units was interactive and included an activity to solidify the content. We also prefaced the program with each of the teachers or lead the sessions in some instances. This was one of the most beneficial experiences that I completed in the LDT program, and I look forward to using it in my career.
The artifact that best demonstrates the ability to adapt instruction and assessment techniques to the needs of diverse learners was my Integrated Instructional Project for EDCI 564. I designed a Livestock Workshop, which was developed for adults and youth alike. Specifically, adults and youth partcipants who are new to the 4-H program. The program assessed the gained knowledge of parents/guardians and 4-Hers through surveys given at the beginning and end of the event. This program covers a multitude of information, so each time I facilitate it I am adapting my instruction and assessment techniques. An example of adaption will be the I will split the particpants up at the trainings based upon knowledge. This is another training that I will be using in the workplace.
